TIER 1 Post Sudy Work

The following information is given in order to provide you with a generalised overview of the criteria required for the Tier 1 (Post Study Work) visa. The Tier 1 (Post Study Work) route will close from April 2012, as a result of this it is important as soon as a migrant meets the Tier 1 (Post Study Work) criteria they should apply.

The Tier 1 (Post Study Work) category aims to retain the most talented international graduates who have studied in the UK. If an application is successful the graduate will be free to seek employment without a sponsor for the period of their Tier 1 (Post Study Work) leave.

If the application is successful the migrant will receive a single grant of leave to remain in the UK for two years.

In order to qualify for the Tier 1 (Post Study Work) a migrant will need to obtain 75 points in the attributes section as well as 10 points for English language and 10 points for maintenance. The points are obtained in the following way:

• Attributes: If the migrant has been awarded a minimum of a UK bachelor’s degree and studied for the eligible award at a UK institution that is a UK recognised body and the period of UK study towards their eligible award was undertaken whilst they had entry clearance or leave to remain in the UK, that was not subject to a restriction preventing them from undertaking a course of study and the application for entry clearance or leave to remain as a Tier 1 (Post Study Work) is made within 12 months of obtaining the eligible award.

• English language: If the above point is met the migrant will meet the English language requirement.

• Maintenance: If the application is submitted in the UK, they migrant must have £800.00 of available funds which must be held for a consecutive 90 day period before the date of application. If the migrant is submitting their application from outside of the UK they must have £2,800 of available funds which must have been held for a consecutive 90 day period before the date of application.
