According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Sydney has just gone 60 straight summer days below 30 degrees, a feat that has not been achieved for 15 years.  In 1997, Sydney-siders enjoyed 61 consecutive summer calendar days without hitting the big 3-0.  As of 10:30 this morning city barometers  broke the 60-day ‘cool’ spell and the suburbs slowly followed.

Quoting Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke, SMH says La Nina and her Westerly Winds are to blame for our recent record.  These Westerlys push in a blanket of cloud, blocking out the sun, bringing waves of rain, and causing countless travellers and locals to find solace in areas other than Sydney’s sandy beaches and green parks.

If the forecasts are accurate, it seems that we will all have to swap our sailing, sun-bathing, and picnics for the cinema, spray-tans, and pub grub!
